Who this is for
You inspect other people’s work: a field crew with PT, MT, UT and RT kit, or an accredited laboratory working under a scope. You do not own the fabrication; the report is your product.
So your record revolves around the inspector, the instrument and the method, and the evidence that all three were valid on the day.
The regime you live under
ISO 9712 governs the people: certification per method, level and sector, up to five years, with continuous activity to renew and an annual near-vision check.
- Level 1 works under instruction;
- Level 2 interprets and evaluates against acceptance criteria;
- Level 3 is responsible for procedures.
ISO/IEC 17025 governs the accredited lab: a valid method, equipment calibrated with SI traceability, a competent operator, conditions in limits, and a chain you can reconstruct. Conformity statements need a decision rule, and issued reports change only by supersession.
The specific pain of proving it
The trap is timing. Certificates and calibrations expire quietly, and the cost arrives when someone signs a report the day after.
