Who this is for
You build ships or offshore structures: hulls, superstructures, jackets, topsides, subsea structures. Welded steel at enormous scale, governed by the rules of a classification society, with a surveyor present through the build.
The class regime is the layer over the work that decides:
- how much you examine,
- how you prove it,
- who has to watch.
The rules that govern the work
Each recognised society publishes rules for hulls and offshore structures, and they shape the shop:
- Welding under a quality system consistent with ISO 3834, with procedures and welders qualified for the ranges the joints need.
- NDT extent and acceptance set by the rules: a percentage by joint type and location, raised in critical areas, proven weld by weld.
- A surveyor witnesses the work at defined stages and signs at hold points. The evidence must be complete at that moment, not assembled afterwards.
