Welder qualification tracking Included in Weldtrack.
Welder qualifications with their expiries and continuity, taken from the welds recorded on the job.
What it does.
For welding coordinators and quality managers.
- ISO 9606-1 and ASME IX. The validity of each qualification follows the rules of its own standard, including the six-monthly confirmation and the ASME six-month rule.
- Continuity from recorded welds. Each weld recorded on the job becomes continuity evidence, with the joint and the date behind it.
- Expiries flagged ahead. Confirmations and renewals coming due are listed in advance, by welder and by process.
- Checked at assignment. Coverage and validity are checked when the welder is put on a joint, not discovered at the audit.
- Certificates attached. The certificate and the test reports stay with the qualification, ready for the client or the auditor.
- Linked to procedures. The same register holds the WPS each welder works to, so the joint, the procedure and the welder are checked together.
How it works.
-
Each qualification is a record, not a PDF
Certificate, standard, process and qualified ranges sit on the welder's record, with the designation built from the qualified variables, under ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX.
-
Continuity comes from the welds themselves
Every weld recorded on a joint is evidence that the welder has welded within the scope. The six-monthly confirmation is prepared from those records, not from memory.
-
Expiries show up before they fall due
The next confirmation and the end of validity are worked out by the rule of the certificate's standard, and are flagged ahead for the coordinator and for whoever plans the work.
-
A lapsed welder is not put on a joint
When a welder is assigned to a joint, the system checks that a valid qualification covers it on that day. If none does, the assignment stops there.
What changes.
Today
Six-monthly confirmations are signed in a batch before the audit.
With Worgify
Continuity comes from the welds, and a lapsed welder is kept off the joint.

Why a spreadsheet stops working here
A welder qualification is valid only while two things stay true. The certificate has not expired, and the welder has kept welding within its scope. Under ISO 9606-1 someone in the company confirms that every six months. Under ASME IX a welder who has not used the process for six months loses the qualification for it.
A spreadsheet can hold the dates. It cannot see the welds. So the confirmation becomes a signature collected before the audit, and nobody notices the welder who stopped using the process in spring. That gap usually surfaces when a client or a notified body asks for the continuity evidence of one specific joint.
In Worgify the evidence and the qualification are in the same place. Every weld recorded in Weld map and weld tracking carries the welder, the process and the date, and that is what the confirmation is made from. The procedures each welder works to are kept in WPS and PQR, in the same register.
To keep the record in a spreadsheet for now, start from the free welder continuity log template.
